After last yearโ€™s success the teams at Hapag-Lloyd once more found a way to live track the position and speed of our riders at Sundayโ€™s Cyclassics bike race in Hamburg! How? Using Hapag-Lloydโ€™s Live Position IoT devices which usually track the position of our global container fleet โš“๏ธ Next to triggering a lot of great discussions along the race track, it also allowed the teams to experiment with our data architecture in a challenging but controlled environment preparing the way for new features and IoT use cases for our customers and teams. And yes, it was a lot of fun as well! Congrats, Camilo Jara Chamorro, Christian Unger, Lennart Bentjen, Olaf Habert, Patrick Briest, Stephen Ruane (and many moreโ€ฆ!) for a great race and making it such a successful experiment!

This has become much more visible over the last years. The growth & transformation of our global teams and the rapid modernization of our tech/data/AI stack has helped us significantly to stay ahead. Example: new digital products such as Ship Green or HL LIVE โญ Our ambition to be the "Undisputed Number One for Quality" is a team effort across all functions and data & AI has a key enabling role. Our team's flagship event of the year is live: Hapag-Lloyd AG's Data Discovery Week! A week full of #inspiration, #training, and #awareness for our global teams around data and AI. After a strong kick-off by Valentin Schรถndienst (CTO/CPO of Axel Springer), we jumped right in with hands-on sessions around or AI tools. Tomorrow will be all under the headline of #AI with our teams opening the doors to their daily work and what they are working on. For the first time, we also invited interested people from other companies to join us in Hamburg for a cross-company exchange. I'm excited!

I had the big pleasure to share the stage with Helena Yin Koeppl and Tom Godden at the AWS ExecLeaders Summit to talk data & AI ๐Ÿฆพ AI is already creating real value at Hapag-Lloyd and many other companies. One success factor is to keep the scope of AI solutions narrow: Especially GenAI has the tendency to strongly outperform in some areas and underperform others. By picking sub-tasks that play in AIโ€™s favor we avoid the risk of falling over the โ€œcliff of capabilityโ€ ๐ŸŒŽ I believe the question if to centralize or decentralize AI efforts can only be answered with โ€œyes.โ€ We are all on a learning path how to make the best use of AI in our domain and for this we need to provide the right tools, platforms, and data to allow the use of AI for everyone. At the same time, with scarce AI capabilities and experiences at almost all organizations Iโ€™ve talked to, there is a higher need than ever to have a clear focus & strong support for the most critical strategic opportunities. As Tom said so nicely: โ€œYou need to be ruthless in your prioritizationโ€ ๐ŸŽ๏ธ AI is evolving so rapidly, that trying to deploy the bleeding edge is โ€œmission impossibleโ€ and likely to slow you down in the long-term. Instead, we build our capabilities to observe, to learn from others, and act quickly & decisively when we spot the right opportunity that matters Thank you for a great discussion and the many fantastic questions from the audience!
