When your dog's day goes from BEST DAY EVER to WTF... Yesterday Luna discovered the magic of a real bone. It was probably the most excited I have ever seen her. Huge tail wags and commitment with a touch of growling. Then her left eye started acting all weird and swelling shut. Emergency vet visit commenced immediately. A few tests and checks later. A diagnosis of Horner's eye syndrome. Followed by some jabs, medication and one very anxious dog mum wondering how a bone turned into a vet's appointment, we were sent home. Today, thankfully she seems fine and her eye looks much better. We are going back this afternoon for a follow-up, just to make sure everything is fine and nothing else is lurking under the surface. Fingers crossed. 🤞 For the foreseeable future, that was Luna's first AND last bone. 😅 --- I seriously never thought being a dog mum would be this stressful. 😩

If you think design doesn't matter. Think again... Rachel emailed me less than 2 weeks after we launched her new site and branding. A perfectly aligned lead had landed in her inbox. Not "close enough." Exactly the right person. First thing they said to her on the discovery call? How much they love the site. That's not luck. That's what the right visual identity does. It signals to the right people that they are in the right place, before they have read a single word. ❌ Wrong visuals attract the wrong clients. ✅ Right visuals do the filtering for you. That's not a coincidence. That's what happens when design and positioning are done right.

Finally! I have done it. I have cracked the LinkedIn algorithm! ❌ You don’t need a personal brand. ❌ You don’t need a elaborate content strategy. ❌ You don’t need fancy banner or graphics. All you need is a dog. Preferably one wearing a cute little coat, sitting like it’s running the show. That's it. Thats the secret. 🐾 You are welcome. 🤗

Graphic design is not my calling... I don’t jump out of bed every morning thinking: “YES, MORE DESIGN!” I do it because… well, mostly because it lets me live my life my way: ✔️ I set my own hours. ⏰ ✔️ I take time off when I want. 🏖️ ✔️ I choose the people I work with. ✨ ✔️ I decide my rates (hello, no awkward salary negotiations). 💸 ✔️ I work from my sofa in tracksuit bottoms while my dog judges me quietly. 🐶 For me, it’s freedom from: ➡️ Corporate politics 🙄 ➡️ The 9–5 rat race 🐀 Would I call it my life’s calling? Nope. It’s just something I’m pretty good at, enjoy most days, that pays the bills… and keeps my dog fed and spoiled with treats. 🐾 Honestly? If I won the lottery tomorrow… I would probably either: ❌ Stop doing it completely, or ✅ Only work on projects I know 100% I will like, with people I actually enjoy. Let’s be real, sometimes the dream isn’t “passion” or “calling.” Sometimes it’s just freedom. And that’s enough.

I caved. I got Claude. I hate that you all were right. I love it. And yes... I'm now one of those people talking about Claude. Sorry, not sorry. 👀

Most multi-page websites are a waste of money… You don’t need 12 pages. You need one landing page. One page that clearly tells people: ✅ who it’s for ✅ what you do ✅ why it matters ✅ what to do next Not a maze that confuses the TF out of everyone who lands on it. If people can’t figure out what you do and who you help in 10 seconds, they are leaving. No one has time or patience to solve that puzzle. So before you waste your hard-earned money on a multi-page website… Start with one landing page that actually converts. Then, if you really need them, you can add more pages later down the line. —- P.S. give me a shout if you need help with a new website. 👌🏻

I see the same LinkedIn banner mistakes every single day... ❌ Too much text. Your banner is not a CV. People won’t read paragraphs. Keep it short and punchy. ❌ Blurry images and low quality images. it simply screams “I don’t care about quality.” ❌ No clear focus. If someone can’t instantly tell what you do, you’ve lost them. ❌ Bad and dated stock photography. Stock photos work, but make sure they don’t scream ‘2003 PowerPoint presentation.’ ❌ Colour chaos. Clashing colours make your profile feel messy and hard to look at. Choose a cohesive palette and make sure there’s enough contrast. ❌ Font nightmares. Comic Sans called… it wants its career back. ❌ Tiny text. If people can’t read it in a tiny preview, it doesn’t matter how clever your words are. ❌ Too many elements, not enough white space. Your face, your logos, your awards, your dog and 25 offers… It's too much. Pick one main focus and stick with it. Your banner and profile graphics are your first impression. They say more about you and your business than you realise. Take a good look at your graphics. Be honest… What first impression does it give about you?

"You're the LinkedIn Banner Queen." I have designed hundreds of them, and I love what a great banner can do for someone's profile. So that reputation didn't come from thin air. But a queen has a whole kingdom, and mine goes way beyond LinkedIn banners. ✔️ Websites - full design & build. ✔️ Branding — logos, colours, fonts, the whole shebang. ✔️ Social media graphics - all shapes and sizes. ✔️ Slide decks and presentations. ✔️ Proposal documents. ✔️ Ebooks. ✔️ Brochures. ✔️ Print collateral. LinkedIn banners is where it started. But they are nowhere near where it stopped.

Substack or Beehiiv? Lovely people, I need a bit of help. Im planning to launch a newsletter. And I refuse to spend 47 hours down a rabbit hole comparing platforms. Because I would rather have a cuddle and nap with my dog instead... So I'm coming straight to the people who actually know. Both keep getting thrown at me as the answer. So which is it, and what made you pick yours? Let me know. 👇

Since going freelance I have designed 1,000+ LinkedIn banners... You would assume by now I know the banner dimensions off the top of my head. Well, you would be assuming wrong. I still Google it. Every. Single. Time. 😩

I am not a business owner. And I don't want to be one... At least not in the traditional sense. I have no interest in; ❌ scaling to 7 figures, ❌ having a team, ❌ or an office. Call me an independent, freelancer or self-employed graphic designer, but I don't see myself as a 'business owner.' Because for me, that means: • I choose my clients. • I choose my projects. • I choose when and where I work. • I choose how much is “enough.” No office politics. No team meetings. No salaries to worry about. No pressure to endlessly scale. So if you are a freelancer who doesn’t dream of building an “agency” or “empire”, you are not thinking small. You are just here designing a business that fits you. And there is nothing wrong with that. 😉

I am a proud dog mum. Yes, I said it. And I am going to go one step further... I think my dog is cuter than any baby I have ever seen. Every. Single. One. Does that make me biased? Absolutely. Does it make me wrong? Also no. (In my humble opinion) She listens (sometimes). She shows up with good energy every time. She has better and shinier hair than most adults. She doesn’t cry on planes. She doesn’t ask for a college fund. All she wants is snacks and emotional support. (Same, love, same.) Respectfully, your baby is great. But have you seen my dog? 🐾 --- P.S. Where are my proud dog parents at?

Things that make me cringe as a 37-year-old millennial… According to the internet. Apparently I’m deeply embarrassing because I: ➡️ Use the 😂 emoji. A lot. ➡️ Still say the word selfie. ➡️ Enjoy avocado on toast. ➡️ Love a good true crime podcast. ➡️ Wear skinny jeans and ankle socks. ➡️ Have plants all over my house. The horror. ➡️ Call my dog my child. Yes I do. No I’m not sorry. ➡️ Still own an Xbox and enjoy a proper gaming session. ➡️ Have definitely said “living my best life” at least once. ➡️ And I'm obsessed with K-pop. (Stray Kids for eva.) At this point I’m one houseplant and a true-crime podcast away from being cancelled. But if loving skinny jeans, avocado toast, and treating my dog like my child is wrong… I don’t want to be right. So I'm just gonna continue living my best millennial life and be cringe AF. 😘 --- And just to add salt to the wound, here’s a photo of my avo on toast… and my furbaby, waiting for the perfect moment to steal a bite. 🐾 P.S. I know I’m not alone, what’s your millennial crime? 👀

I f*cked up this week. Not "oops, sent an email to the wrong person" level. More like "just deleted 4 years of client work and personal branding files in a single click" level f*ck up... Every client file. Every brand asset. Every "I'll definitely use this later" folder. Gooooooone. Permanently. No backup. No recovery. I took spring cleaning too literally and now I'm living in a completely fresh start I did not ask for. Sooo yeah, turns out "I'll back it up later" is not a backup strategy. Who would have thought... 🤦🏼‍♀️ --- So if anyone needs me, I'll be in the corner curled up in a fetal position crying.

"It feels like me, which is exactly what I hoped for." Because when a client says that, you know you nailed it. Not "I love the colours." Not "the layout is clean." It feels like ME. Because that's what a poorly designed website costs. Not just aesthetics. Your whole damn identity. Sara-Louise Goode came to me with a Wix template site that still had "while this site is being updated" copy on it. 😬 ❌ No press. ❌ No proof. ❌ No story. Just an incredibly talented women's mentor being completely buried by a website that was basically a digital shrug. So we fixed it. Properly. ✅ Clear messaging. ✅ Custom design in Figma. ✅ Social proof front and center. ✅ Three clear audience journeys. ✅ Built in WordPress Elementor so Sara can update and edit it herself. ✅ Plus a full LinkedIn asset redesign. Same Sara. Completely different first impressions all over. She now wholeheartedly recommends me to anyone who wants a designer that "truly understands how to translate personality into design." - Her words not mine. 👀 I'll take that. 😁 So, does your website feel like YOU? Or does it feel like a template you've been meaning to fix since 2022 and just... haven't? You know where to find me. 📩

It’s not always your offer that drives people away… Often, it’s your design making ‘yes’ feel harder than choosing what to watch next on Netflix. People form an opinion about your brand fast. Often before they’ve read a single word. So before your offer lands, before your copy has a chance, your design has already set the tone. And that matters. Because good design: ✔️ Builds trust from the first glance. ✔️ Makes things easier to understand. ✔️ Helps people know what to do next. Bad design does the opposite. ❎ It creates friction, ❎ confusion, ❎ and quietly sends people looking for the exit. Design isn’t just about making things look “pretty”. It’s about making things work. And no, design alone won’t fix everything. But if it’s not doing its job, it’s quietly costing you. (Probably more than you realise.)
