The Failure of the Smartest Agricultural Project in the 1970s
في السبعينيات استوردت منطقة الخليج مشروع الصوبات الزجاجية ( سـقف زجاجـي جمالونـي مائـل بزاويـة لدخــول أكبــر كميــة مــن ضــوء الشــمس ولتقليــل نســبة الحــرارة) من هولندا وتم نسخ المشروع كما هو، نظراً لنجاحه انذاك وذلك بهدف الأمن الغذائي عبر أحدث تكنولوجيا في العالم.
إلا أن المشروع تحول إلى مقبرة للمحاصيل وللملايين المسثمرة فيه.
• صُمم الزجاج في هولندا "ليحبس" حرارة الشمس (لأن جوهم بارد). في صحرائنا، تحول لـفرن طبخ النباتات.
• التبريد اعتمد على أنظمة "الفلاتر المائية"؛ الغبار والرمال سدّت مسام النظام في أيام، فتعطل التبريد تماماً.
المشكلة لم تكن في جودة التكنولوجيا الهولندية، بل في "عمى السياق" (Context Blindness).
لا تزال تتكرر هذه المعضلة اليوم في عالم الأتمتة والتكنولوجيا وإدارة الأعمال:
عندما ننسخ نظاماً ناجحاً في شركة عالمية ونحاول فرضه على مؤسستنا دون مراعاة (ثقافة الموظفين، البيئة التشغيلية، واحتياج السوق الحقيقي)، فنحن نبني بيتاً زجاجياً في ممر الرياح الرملية.
In the 1970s, the Gulf region imported a greenhouse project (a gabled glass roof angled to allow the maximum amount of sunlight and to reduce the heat ratio) from the Netherlands. The project was replicated exactly as it was, due to its success at the time, aiming for food security through the latest technology available worldwide.
However, the project turned into a graveyard for croa financial drain ps and for the millions invested in it.
• The glass was designed in the Netherlands to "trap" solar heat (because their climate is cold). In our desert, it turned into an oven that cooked the plants.
• Cooling relied on "water filter" systems; dust and sand clogged the system's pores within days, causing the cooling to fail.
The problem was not the quality of the Dutch technology, but "Context Blindness."
This dilemma continues to recur today in the world of automation, technology, and business management:
When we copy a successful system from a global company and try to impose it on our organization without considering (employee culture, operational environment, and actual market needs), we are building a glasshouse in the path of sandstorms.
