Flying to Doha for Web Summit Qatar with our VP of Commercial and my good friend Abdelrahman Ayman to represent Manara & spend time with governmental partners who aim to upskill local talents at scale & to connect with leaders from tech enterprises expanding into MENA and aiming to increase their technology adoption; especially in AI & Cloud. Our main focus at Manara is helping governments and enterprises move from AI ambition to execution through scalable programs and long-term capability building. If you’re attending WebSummit, see you there.

Proof that 15 minutes is sometimes all it takes! An energizing conversation with Mohammed Amin, SVP at Dell Technologies, alongside Abdelrahman Ayman at Web Summit Qatar — followed by a selfie and a full hour of reflection. Big signals. Strong alignment. The kind of meeting that accelerates Manara’s upskilling impact across MENA. We’re just getting started. Time to cook. 🚀🔥

Presenting Manara’s 2025 Learnings, Impact & Achievements during AWS re:Invent to Amazon Web Services (AWS) leaders, partners & team members was truly an honor. For 2 years in a row AWS trusted us with upskilling and training MENA talents on AI & Cloud technologies & we have achieved a lot together: - 45,000 Enrolled MENA Learners - 5,500 Graduates from AWS Programs - 1,900 AWS Certified Talents - 90% PASS RATE!!! 🤯 & the cherry on top: - 570 MENA Talents got jobs, promotions, internships and/or freelancing opportunities! 🚀🚀 This is education for employment & Jobs are always the priority & the end in mind! Our team wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this without the amazing Clara N. Cedeño who has enabled and supported us in ways we couldn’t have imagined!

"Let your work speak for itself" is a problematic & a 1-dimensional career advice to follow at a startup. I've watched lots of brilliant professionals get passed over for promotions. Not because they weren't good enough, but because nobody knew how good they were. The real problem? They confused humility with invisibility. You can be humble AND visible in the same time (they’re not mutually exclusive) You can give credit to your team AND claim your contributions too. There’s nothing wrong with being visible when you are truly adding value to your team and your business!

You meet a lot of investors, founders & tech leaders in the entrepreneurship scene but rarely do you feel you’re in a safe space and able to share & connect on a personal level. This was my experience meeting Saed Nashef (سائد ناشف) yesterday who Iliana Montauk always spoke very highly of! So glad we got the chance to share thoughts on the Edtech scene, Manara’s growth plans & RAED Ventures investments. A meeting that recharged me after 2 months of non-stop traveling & meetings. ⚡️

Your first GTM campaign will humble you Hard. You'll make mistakes. You'll waste budget. You'll question everything. And that's EXACTLY what you need! Because founders who win aren't the ones who avoid failure they're the ones who fail FASTER and learn QUICKER than everyone else.

"Scaling is about subtraction, not addition" I read this sentence recently, and it really resonated with me in my startup journey as an ex-founder and as a coach/mentor to several startups today. Most startups don't fail because they do too little; they fail because they do too much. To this day many founders think that growth is about adding: more features, more markets & more team members! When in reality scaling a startup usually requires ruthlessly cutting everything that doesn't move the needle. My experience at Manara is teaching me that there are 3 ways to scale through subtraction: - Say no to "opportunities" Not every partnership, market, or investor is right for you. Every yes to the wrong thing is a no to the right thing. - Kill your darlings That feature you love but only 5% of users touch; just remove it! Focus your team's energy on what actually drives your goals (be it retention or revenue...) - Simplify your operations Complexity kills speed. Review your processes monthly and eliminate anything that doesn't directly serve your customers or your team's efficiency. Startups that scale fastest aren't the ones doing everything. They're the ones who figured out what NOT to do.

After attending Dr. Ruba Borno’s key note speech at AWS re:Invent yesterday; I went to bed last night thinking of these 4 thoughts: - The opportunities coming in cloud and AI will be massive!! - The MENA region is overflowing with talents & untapped potential - With the right training and access, MENA tech talents won’t just participate in the future; they’ll shape it. - Manara’s mission to bring MENA tech talents to the global stage & be the #1 upskilling partner in the region will be the engine for tens of thousands of talents to find their way in the AI era. The speech basically captured the vision we at Manara have for the Agentic Era; where cloud, AI, and human potential converge together. Tech isn’t just about tools or platforms. It’s about people. It’s about talent that can transform entire industries. It’s about unlocking “the precise science behind seemingly impossible transformations.” Ruba’s words gave us even more conviction in our mission: - Upskill thousands of future AI & Cloud leaders in MENA - Equip them with the skills the world’s top companies are racing to hire for - Build a talent pipeline ready for the wave of opportunities this new era is unleashing Thank you Ruba for the clarity you brought to the stage. And thank you to our Manara partners that believe in MENA talents and invest in our upskilling programs to upskill them! Day well spent with Iliana Montauk & Abdelrahman Ayman at re:Invent!

After sitting in multiple founder meetings, board meetings & OKR meetings; I noticed a pattern: "The best startup talents don’t present metrics; they translate meaning!" Here's what founders / c-suite actually want to know from you when you present to them: 1. What impact are you doing in the business? Founders don't care that you "ran 12 campaigns" or "shipped 8 features." They care that you "increased signup-to-paid conversion by 18%, increasing monthly recurring revenue (MRR) by $140K." --> FOCUS on impact, not just activity. (most probably they'll ask how it happened, this is when you highlight key learnings from the activity) 2. What your presentation means for their next milestone? Founders think in fundraising rounds, runway, and board meetings. Connect your results directly to those milestones. When you translate your work into their strategic timeline, you're speaking their language. 3. What you need to accelerate or derisk? Founders respect managers who spot bottlenecks before they become a crisis. Don't just report success; show where the next constraint will appear. This is how you move from being PERCEIVED as an executor to a strategic partner! (Executors report numbers. Strategic partners change how leaders think) 4. What you learned that should shift their strategy? This is where you earn real TRUST!!! Share the insight that changes how the founders should think about the business. "Our best customers come from a channel we're barely investing in." When I coach or mentor startup talents I always tell them: "If your insights consistently influence decisions, trust becomes inevitable! The moment you frame data as business meaning, you stop being a reporter and start being a partner."

“The culture you build shows up in your results.” As I reflect on Manara’s strong start to 2026, one of our company values keeps coming to mind: “tough love”. Direct & continous feedback. The rule is simple; if you have feedback: Say it clearly. Say it early. Say it to the right person. No sugarcoating. No backchannels. No tip-toeing. No drama. At the beginning it’s not easy for the giver or the receiver to get used to this; but with time you discover it’s a great way to learn faster and work better together.

نحن نؤمن أن اللغة لا يجب أن تكون عائقاً أمام التعلم أو التقدّم المهني. Learners in MENA rely on tools like ChatGPT just to translate learning content to their own language. This is a major hassle! With 300,000 learners getting upskilled on Manara's platform on AI & Cloud & multiple governments & Tech Companies depending on us to train talents; we decided that we need to make life easier for them and make education accessible for everyone in MENA! We took a bold step and made ALL our AWS Learning content in Arabic. Language should never be a barrier to upskilling. Manara will always support companies and governments across the MENA in building more inclusive, future-ready workforces. Why now. Why Saudi Arabia. 🇸🇦 Over the past days at Cloud Catalyst, what stood out was the level of readiness across the ecosystem, talent, partners, and institutions moving in the same direction. We saw teams building with confidence, applying cloud and AI to real challenges, and engaging in thoughtful discussions around execution, scale, and impact. This wasn’t experimentation; it was capability in action! Saudi Arabia today represents a unique moment of alignment. Clear national direction, strong institutional trust, and a growing base of highly capable technical talent create real opportunity for partners who want to build; not just observe. This direction is about working with partners who believe in long-term impact, where learning turns into execution, and collaboration turns into measurable outcomes. In this video, I share why this moment matters, why Saudi Arabia matters, and how we at Manara see partners playing a central role in what comes next.

I know this might sound harsh, but most "lifelong learners" never launch anything. Every event I go to I meet “potential future founders” who have a brilliant idea but keep pushing it off with excuses like: "I just need to take one more course, read one more book & should probably get certified in X before I start." Meanwhile, their idea sits collecting dust in their notes app. But here's the truth: “A lot of us use learning as a shield from trying and failing!” This is called the ETERNAL STUDENT SYNDROME - and it's killing your potential! Don't get me wrong; learning matters always and it’s not something you do, it’s more of an ongoing state of being! But learning without action can turn into intentional procrastination! The market doesn't need another person with a stack of certificates and a head full of theory. It needs people who are willing to start messy, learn as they go, and actually build something. We need more DOERS; not more STUDENTS!

As a Board Member of The Trainer, I’m excited to share that we have partnered with ESLSCA University. This a shared commitment to transforming the Learning & Development ecosystem in Egypt. Back in 2017, Wael Farag and I started The Trainer with a clear vision: to elevate the entire L&D landscape in Egypt. From 2017 to 2023, we worked relentlessly to bring that vision to life. Through Egypt’s largest conference for L&D professionals, The L&D Hub, we connected 1,000+ global, regional, and local entities and experts, creating an unprecedented platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Alongside that, The Trainer School, ran for seven consecutive years, impacting hundreds of trainers, L&D Professionals , and instructional designers across Egypt and helping raise professional standards across the industry. Today, being backed by a huge institute like ESLSCA University marks the beginning of a new chapter, one where academia and industry come together to scale that impact even further. The next chapter starts now & I have full trust in the team running The Trainer led by Wael Farag. Kareem ElHennawi Hassan Elmiligui Mariam Kazmani

I was on a roadtrip in California this week and for the first time in years I got the chance to reflect on a lot of experiences I lived through over the past few years - so will start sharing some of them in a series of posts here. Reflection #1: 99% of startups founders you know at some point wanted to quit and sell their company. It happened to me, it happened to my mentors, to the inspiring entrepreneurs in my circle…& for all sorts of reasons! Some of us had co-founders who burned out so after we pushed for a while we just couldn’t do it alone. Others felt like their family needs them and becoming an employee is actually the more matching path for them at this stage! A lot felt like their company hasn’t been growing fast enough and they miss the early starts when everything was exciting and new - Now its all about investor updates & trying to retain team members leaving for more lucrative offers.. I would say 10-15% of the founders who started with me around 2013-2015 are still trying to scale their companies (even if it’s their 2nd or 3rd one now) but the rest quit. But they didn’t fail - they just understood they need something else in life right now. Their impact still lasts to this day; and who knows, maybe they will start a new journey soon.. ربنا يكون في عون كل مجتهد 🙏🏼

Honored to step into the role of CEO at Manara. I never think of this place as an EdTech or a tech upskilling company. Manara to me was always a social movement that started with a simple belief our founders shared: incredible talent exists everywhere across MENA, and opportunity should too! I’m grateful to our team, partners, and community for getting us here. Now, the mission is bigger and clearer than ever: scale our impact, remove borders to opportunities, and put MENA tech talent unmistakably on the global map. This is just the beginning. بسم الله

Manara & Scale AI have been cooking something quietly and with intention over the past 6 months for MENA; starting with Qatar. 🇶🇦 Today in Doha we officially launched with Scale AI “ALIF Core”, our flagship GenAI foundational bootcamp built for the non-technical public sector teams to develop practical AI understanding, apply it to real work, and use it responsibly with confidence. I’m glad to be working with Norah Abokhodair, PhD, Head of Upskilling & AI Transformation at Scale AI, to co-build MENA’s ‘capability infrastructure’ to power the future of AI in the region through localized arabic-first hands-on AI training. This collaboration goes beyond learning outcomes. It is about measurable transformation for individuals, organizations, and the broader ecosystem. Manara & Scale bring in: • Global expertise grounded in regional context • AI strategy connected to real execution • Talent development golden standard that creates long term capability ALIF Core & ALIF Tech programs will turn AI potential into practical reality across MENA. #ALIF #Manara #ScaleAI

After working almost decade in the #Edtech industry, the Coursera X Udemy merger didn't surprise me; even at its massive scale. COVID pulled years of online learning adoption forward in a matter of months. I saw that in my Noon-The Social Learning Platform where COVID helped us hit 2M users in Egypt in a few months. Other Edtech startups around us back then also saw a hockey-stick increase in LMS usage and self-paced courses literally exploded. Almost a year later; the world reopened, demand snapped back, and the gap between pandemic-era growth stories and actual unit economics became impossible to ignore!! That’s when consolidation of EdTech companies stopped being optional. This merger isn’t a sign Edtech is in trouble; it’s a sign it’s maturing. The market is moving from fragmented platforms to a smaller number of players that act as skills infrastructure for companies, governments, and labor markets. This merger + the Accenture acquisition of Udacity won’t be the last. The next chapter of edtech won’t be written by whoever launches the next platform, but by whoever can successfully integrate what already exists. Something I'm learning after 3 years with Manara focusing on MENA Tech Upskilling in AI & Cloud: "Content was never the name of the game in EdTech. Scale, distribution, enterprise trust, and provable outcomes were always more critical..."
