What we've been up to since HEROIC’s next chapter began.
Since announcing the sale of HEROIC back in March, we’ve been moving through what we call “early days” of our next chapter—with intention, care, and more space.
We're still teaching in our GRAD programs and mentoring the team through the transition. But we’ve also shifted the center of gravity back toward home. We’re focused on each other, our kids, our parents, and on being present for the kinds of moments that used to require a lot more scheduling.
Michael’s baking. A lot.
He is baking—joyfully—for the local community and meals for people experiencing homelessness.
Amy had rotator cuff repair surgery almost immediately after stepping out of her CRO and admissions roles (excellent timing). Recovery is going well, and we’ve found a slower rhythm that’s allowing for more walks, more books, more conversations—and fewer phone calls.
We’ve also been doing some college visits with Ruby, law school exploration with Jake, visits with our son Leo (who lives out of state), and just a little travel. Long weekends closer to home: the Finger Lakes, the Hudson Valley, parts of New England. (We saw James Taylor perform under the stars—sublime.)
We’ve received so many thoughtful emails (almost daily!) asking, “Are you okay?”
It’s a generous question—and we get why people are asking.
Our students aren’t used to us being this quiet. But the quiet doesn’t mean something’s wrong. We’re introverts at heart, and this chapter is about restoring our energy by being, well… introverted. We’re feeling healthy, and doing really well. Just a little less loud about it.
We’re also going through a transformation of our own.
This moment feels like a hallway between major rooms. Much like a professor taking a sabbatical, we’re letting stillness do its work. We don’t have immediate plans to launch something new—but we’re creative people. And we know that creative energy has its own clock. Maybe in 2026, something new and gentle will arise. But for now, we’re fully here in this moment, in this really lovely hallway.
Even if we did one day return to something that touches the world of speaking, it wouldn’t be what we’ve done before. It would be informed by this quieter chapter—and transformed by who we’re becoming inside it.
As for HEROIC—its mission continues.
The faculty, team, curriculum, and community remain exceptional. The learning experience is as transformational as ever, and our newest GRAD alumni continue to describe the faculty as unmatched in the industry. That has always been the standard—and it still is.
We’re grateful for every note you’ve sent and every kindness you’ve shared.
We’re proud of the transformation that HEROIC continues to deliver—powered by the strength of the team and the deep roots of what we built together.
With love,
Amy & Michael Port
