Putting my journalist hat back on this week for Oxfam was worthwhile.
I moderated the debate on their new report: “A European Agenda to Tax the Super-Rich."
Some key findings:
👉 Today, 8 in every 10 euros of tax revenue in the EU comes from taxes paid primarily by ordinary Europeans. Taxes on wealth represent only 0.4%.
👉 Altogether, the richest 3,600 Europeans now hold as much wealth as the poorest 181 million, equivalent to the populations of Germany, Italy and Spain combined.
The discussion between MEPs Bruno Gonçalves, Danuše Nerudová, Kira Marie P. and Jussi Saramo showed many points of disagreement, but it was great to see intentions to bridge differences and find solutions to the rising inequality crisis.
So glad to join my former Oxfamers again and help disseminate their important work. Congratulations to Chiara Putaturo and Julien Desiderio for their incredible work! 👏
