Beijing's 2025 Half Marathon brought about two dozen humanoid robots to the race, with teleoperators running alongside their remote controlled humanoids. Many robots ran hot, fell repeatedly and were pretty slow movers with max speeds of 8km/h. The 2026 Beijing Half Marathon, taking place on April 13th, will be vastly different. 20+ humanoid robotics teams had already trials for their robots, but his time, they will run fully autonomously. And the first videos that surfaced from the trials show some amazing progress in speed and endurance.

I read a lot about how Waymos and other robotaxis are blocking traffic, drive ways, block streets while double parking etc., and some regulators and experts keep raising their voices about how awful and potentially dangerous that is. So they started to register cases of robotaxis behaving bad to prove their point. BUT.... What I am missing in that discussion are multiple things: - they are not using the same scrutiny for human driven vehicles. What are the actual numbers of humans parking illegally, blocking traffic, stopping in drive ways and potentially preventing emergency providers from helping people in need? - why are we talking about PUDOs (dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones), while we are not going first principle and ask "why do we allow so many people park their private property for cheap of even for free on a public space?" The mayor of the Spanish town Pontevedra, who in 1999 banned cars from the city center, said it clearly: "It is not part of my job as mayor to make sure you find a parking spot. To me, that’s like buying a cow or a refrigerator and then asking me where to put it." No parked cars also means enough PUDOs for robotaxis.
