AI won’t replace sales. But sales teams using AI will outperform those who don’t. This week I was invited to lead a training session at JAS London. We explored how AI can support sales, not by automating it, but by enabling more efficiency. Because in logistics, time is best spent on what truly drives value: → Trust → Real conversations → Long-term partnerships The session was packed, interactive, and full of energy. And the key takeaway? Even in a tech-driven world, Logistics remains a people business. Thanks again to Paul South and the JAS UK team for the warm welcome. It was a pleasure to share ideas and learn from each other. Curious to hear your view: How is AI changing the way sales teams sell?

Carrier liability is not cargo insurance. And this misunderstanding costs companies serious money. A shipment leaves your factory. By truck. By air. By sea. Everything is organized. Experienced partners. Clean documentation. Tight timelines. Then it happens. Damage. Loss. Container overboard. Aircraft incident. Handling accident in a terminal. First reaction: “We’re fine. The carrier is insured.” But here’s the reality. Carrier liability is legally limited. And it does not reflect your actual cargo value. Not in road transport. Not in air freight. Not in ocean freight. The rules are international. And they all have one thing in common: Compensation is capped. Often calculated by weight. Not by your invoice value. So if you ship high-value goods, you may be carrying a financial risk you never clearly calculated. And no, the carrier does not need to act intentionally wrong. Operational mistakes happen. Weather happens. Accidents happen. The liability limit still applies. I often see companies negotiating hard on freight rates. Fighting for the last percentage point. But ignoring the real exposure behind the shipment. There is a clear difference between: “The carrier has liability coverage.” And “Our goods are fully insured.” If you are responsible for logistics or transport budgets, ask yourself one simple question: If your next international shipment is a total loss, who carries the financial damage?

One year ago, I wouldn’t have guessed how 2025 would turn out. New role. New environment. New momentum. This year was full of learning. Adapting. Building trust with new colleagues. Reconnecting with customers and partners. It wasn’t always smooth. Some moments tested my resilience. But those moments reminded me why I love this industry: It’s about people. It’s about relationships. It’s about solving problems. Together. Now, as the year winds down, a quiet question comes up: “Was it a good year?” Maybe we don’t need all the answers. Maybe it’s enough to say: Thank You. To the people who supported us. To the challenges that made us grow. To everything that lies ahead. 2026 won’t be easier. But I’m excited for what’s coming. Let’s keep learning. Keep growing. Keep building. Together. Wishing you a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a happy, successful 2026 🍀 both personally and professionally. Thank you for being part of my journey. See you next year.

The best conversations don’t happen in meeting rooms. They happen in warehouses. This week I visited our Frankfurt Hub with a customer. It’s the heart of our Pharma operations. And home to our very own 747 charter flight. What stood out? A warehouse team so synchronized, you forget how complex the operation really is. Temperature-controlled or not. Import or export. Everything moved seamlessly. You could feel it: Trust. Clarity. Efficiency. And most of all, teamwork at its best. Big thanks to Lukas Bogie for the insights and hospitality. And to the entire team on-site, both in the warehouse and the office. People make the difference. And seeing them in action is the best reminder why.

I was 16. No plan. No clue. Grades? Let’s say: uninspiring. Most of my classmates had their future mapped out. I was still floating. Then one day, a classmate handed me a tiny piece of paper. Just a name. And a phone number. “You should call them,” he said. “They’re looking for apprentices. I just said no.” I had nothing to lose. So I dialed the number. A gentleman picked up. He invited me for a trial day. The next day, I was there. At the end of the day, he looked me in the eye and said: “If you want it, the spot is yours.” I said yes. And without knowing it, I stepped into the world that would shape my life. That was over 32 years ago. But those first 3 years (my apprenticeship) laid the foundation for everything that came after. I cut my first AWB. Managed B/Ls, billing, trucking. Loaded trucks. Delivered cargo. Filed documents. Even made coffee. And yes, sometimes even worked on Sundays. Every task mattered. Every day taught me something new. There was no “that’s not my job.” We did what needed to be done. And we learned fast. That experience shaped me. It taught me work ethic. Responsibility. Curiosity. And it opened the door to one of the most challenging -but fascinating- industries in the world: freight forwarding. Last week, I met that same gentleman again. The one who gave me a chance when I had no direction. Peter Bader - Thank You! For picking up the phone. For saying yes. For giving me a chance. It has been an immense pleasure to meet again after all these years 🙌

Many companies are asking the same question: What happens next in ocean freight? That is exactly why we continue our 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, which has become a trusted source of market insights for many of our customers. Especially now, with the current developments in the Middle East, this perspective has become even more valuable. As usual, we are proud to welcome Lars Jensen one of the most respected experts in the global container shipping industry. He will share his latest view on market developments and what shippers should be prepared for in the coming months. If ocean freight plays a role in your supply chain, this session will be well worth your time. Register here: https://lnkd.in/e_YmsW-f

The JAS “Waves of Change” webinar with Lars Jensen made one thing very clear. Container shipping (and not only) is becoming more unpredictable. Three points stood out for me. 1. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 “𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗲” 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Containers suddenly arrive where nobody planned them. And that triggers problems: • Demurrage • Detention • Customs issues • Container stripping • Unexpected additional costs 2. 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 • Emergency fees • Risk surcharges • Congestion surcharges Often combined with: • Vessel delays • Capacity constraints • Higher freight rates 3. 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 • Bunker prices increase • New fuel-related fees are being introduced This adds even more cost volatility for shippers. The key message for me: These challenges are connected. And they are here to stay. If any of these challenges sound familiar, feel free to reach out. I am happy to support with Ocean Freight or Air Freight solutions. Just drop me a message.

Even the smartest tech can’t fix a broken process. At the Logistikcluster Forum in Basel, we talked AI. We talked Quantum. We talked about the future of logistics. But here’s what we often forget: Even the smartest tech can’t fix a broken process. And it definitely can’t replace human leadership. My takeaways: • AI and Quantum are powerful, when used with purpose. • Broken analog process stays broken digital. • People lead. Tech follows.    Thank you to Logistikcluster Region Basel and all speakers and supporters for the great event! P.S There was also a moment that meant a lot to me personally… But that story needs its own post 😉

One of the unique privileges of working in logistics is how deeply we’re involved across sectors. From construction to pharmaceuticals, from fashion to machinery - we’re always there, behind the scenes, making things move. Yesterday at Swissbau in Basel, that became crystal clear again. And one thing was once more confirmed: People make the difference. Thanks to everyone who took the time to connect.

The Free Trade Agreement with India isn’t just a headline. It’s a real opportunity for Swiss companies navigating complex global markets. Yesterday’s event by the Propeller Club Port of Basel and the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce made that crystal clear. One of the highlights was the impressive presentation of Francois Zehr from Hitachi Energy. He shared how strategic logistics operations can deliver measurable business impact, especially in a market as dynamic as India. For me, it was also a personal moment. Reconnecting with former Panalpina colleagues reminded me: We’ve all taken different paths. Different companies. Different roles. Different chapters in life. But the connection is still there. The energy is still there. The shared spirit never left. True spirit always lives on.

𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁. Rates are unpredictable. Schedules keep shifting. And trade lanes are no longer stable. This isn’t just a temporary disruption. It’s a long-term shift. Here’s what we’re seeing: • Geopolitical tensions are reshaping global flows • Port congestion and reliability remain volatile • Carriers are adapting, but predictability is still out of reach For logistics managers, this means one thing: 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱. That’s why I’m joining Lars Jensen and the JAS Worldwide team for a webinar that goes deep into: • What’s driving today’s market dynamics • What to expect in the months ahead • How smart shippers are staying ahead    ➡️https://lnkd.in/dbYnBSES What’s the biggest shift you’re seeing in your ocean freight flows? #JAS #Oceanfreight #Webinar

Quality. Cost. Speed. Every logistics team wants all three. But you rarely get them at the same time. Fast and high quality? You pay for it. Low cost and high quality? Lead times extend. Low cost and high speed? Quality suffers. I’ve watched companies try to push all three to the maximum. Ultra-low rates. Express delivery promises. Zero tolerance for failures. It always breaks somewhere. What does work is clarity. Knowing which two matter most for your business. And being transparent about the trade-off. When I talk to shippers and logistics teams across Switzerland, the strongest operations share one thing: They align their logistics priorities with their strategy. Not with wishful thinking. Some focus on consistent quality and cost control. Others choose speed and reliability to stay competitive. Both can work. But only when the choices are deliberate, and communicated. In today’s volatility, the companies that succeed are the ones that make conscious decisions. And stick to them. Curious to hear your perspective.

There’s what you see in front of the camera. And what happens behind closed doors. Yesterday, I had the chance to attend a keynote by Mrs. Budliger, State Secretary for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Switzerland. And her speech was not only deeply inspiring but also refreshing and razor-sharp. She didn’t just present the official view. She gave us a look into the real dynamics of international negotiations. Like tariff talks with the US Or Free Trade Agreement with India. Here are my 3 takeaways: 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀. There’s what you see in the media. And what happens behind closed doors. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. Respect and results come when the right people are at the table, prepared, pragmatic, and trusted. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱. And in Switzerland, the population plays a decisive role. Every vote matters. Our direct democracy means the public can drive or derail critical decisions. It was another clear reminder: We live in uncertain times. And boring is not coming back. Thanks to Christian Doepgen for the excellent moderation, and to the Propeller Club Port of Basel and Swiss Asian Chamber of Commerce for hosting this wonderful event.

𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 • Strait of Hormuz effectively closed / high risk transit • Suez Canal transits suspended again by major carriers • Vessels rerouting via Cape of Good Hope • Gulf bookings suspended by several shipping lines • Emergency conflict surcharges introduced • Port congestion expected in alternative hubs • Airspace closures in multiple Middle Eastern countries • Europe–Asia air corridors heavily constrained • Rising fuel prices impacting ocean freight and air freight 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆? Longer transit times. Capacity tightening. Increased spot rates. Higher volatility in lead times and costs. The key now is visibility. Review your shipments. Adjust your planning assumptions. Align closely with your logistics partners. In times like these, proactive coordination makes the difference.

The situation in the Middle East is evolving day by day. And every new development can have an immediate impact on global logistics flows. Routing. Transit times. Capacity. Costs. For logistics and transport managers, the biggest challenge is not the disruption itself. It is the lack of clarity. That is why we decided to keep our customers continuously informed. Our team is updating a dedicated advisory page on a regular basis with the latest developments and the potential supply chain impact. Everything in one place. Clear. Practical. Relevant for your daily logistics decisions. You can access the latest update here: https://lnkd.in/e-7a_jCC If you have questions. Or if you need support assessing the impact on your shipments. Just send me a DM. In times like these, transparency and communication matter more than ever.
