This might be the most important post I ever write. And I think I’ve struggled with this for years and I think this post will find you when you really need it. Happiness is too vague a word an we use it as a lazy catch all to mean some very specific things. I actually keep debating on “money can’t buy happiness” but I’ve settled on “Money Can’t Buy Happiness, Because Happiness Isn’t for Sale”. We want to use money as a tool: - remove financial stress - expand health options - get access to pleasure/dopamine - build security - eliminate threats - access experiences - feel general contentment/comfort You can have all of that and more and be wildly unhappy through no fault of your own, because you dog of 15 years died… You lost your parents… You lost the love of your life. Or you can have a traumatic experience that you just can’t seem to heal… (properly or quickly) Maybe there is even a God shaped hole in your heart that nothing seems to fill. If in chase happiness as if it something you can capture or sustain or if you believe that materialism or financial security should grant it to you… “You have all this, you should be a happy, you shouldn’t complain…” You’re just setting yourself up to abuse your mind and rob yourself of peace from a mental health standpoint. You need to accept that it’s okay to admit that you’re not okay… And that having more than someone else or plenty of options or security… doesn’t mean that you SHOULD be okay… If your scars are not as obvious to the naked eye, it doesn’t make them somehow less real, or less painful. So as I said… Money can’t buy happiness, it can provide a lot of wonderful things. But those things and options don’t cancel out the pain you might be feeling… Money can’t buy Happiness, because it can’t buy the love you might need to heal… The love that you might need to give yourself…

One of the things I have seen make the most difference in Creators growing a YouTube Channel successfully is their SUPPORT SYSTEM. When Creators have the support of their family, a spouse, a significant other or a team, I have seen them grow faster that Creators who truly have no one to support them emotionally or physically. The Creators who grow the fastest have this and have someone who helps them with the actual content, and/or other Creators they can talk to about their ideas and their systems and strategies. What I have seen up close is that consistency and quality suffers when that support system is no longer there. This is one of the most overlooked aspects of why some Creators grow faster than others with no other difference between them that someone would notice. Accountability has been a huge factor I’ve seen come from Creators doing coaching, cohorts of are part of group coaching communities. Also in Creators who have collaborations built into their content strategy. Creators who have teams don’t just have more speed and productivity but more focus in their work structure from body doubling. They don’t have to rely on pure motivation because they have these built-in support structures and accountability to keep them on track. Solo Creators struggle when they don’t take advantage of speed and fast decision making, don’t commit to a niche and stretch themselves too thin, and strive for levels of quality their lifestyle, limited mental bandwidth and physical capacity just can’t handle. They burnout if they don’t physical breakdown… Usually because they are comparing and competing with people who have more support and resources behind the scenes than they do. Of all the unspoken truths of being a content creator, this is one of the most important and overlooked things that nobody talks about.

YOU ARE NOT THE NICHE. The audience is the niche. YOU are the brand… Make content to attract your tribe… Not to satisfy your ego or insecurity. STOP thinking like an artist. START thinking as a brand. An Artist only has to satisfy themselves. A Brand has to put the Audience first.

Content Creation is a Business if you don’t treat it like a Hobby. Platforms treat it like a business, advertisers treat it like a business, viewers expect a quality experience. If you treat content like a Hobby (which you’re allowed to do) just remember you’re the only one in the equation doing so. Everyone else has a clear expectation of value that are looking to extract or exchange. Platforms extract ad revenue whether you’re doing it for fun or not. Advertisers get customers whether you’re doing it for fun or not. Viewers care about whether the content is good, not whether you enjoyed making it. You’re allowed to have this a Hobby, I’m just being honest about the fact that you may find yourself unsatisfied with that if you expect people to validate and honor that you’re doing it for yourself… The platforms, advertisers and viewers, generally have very little investment in how you feel about what you’re making. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. It means that it’s not something the other people you’re asking for support or validation, have that as a priority. If we can be honest about that, you can make a realistic decision about your investment, whether as a hobby or a business. Most people won’t tell you that when they want to say “this is the most fun job ever”, because they are expected to say that or be called out of touch or not humble. The reality won’t match that rhetoric when you are a working class creator, thinking maybe your hobby might work out and turn into something more. This is the actual reason for the burnout epidemic, expectations for small and new creators don’t match reality… because we have a culture that doesn’t let most larger or mid tier creators be honest… Being honest is a liability in an industry built for vibes.

Offload tasks that AI excels at—the ones you dislike anyway. Eliminating draining tasks frees you to enhance your creativity and humanity. Compete with quality, not slop. Ever clicked on a video, got hooked by the topic, then immediately bailed because of terrible audio? Don't believe the hype that your market is drowning in high-quality content. From a purely technical standpoint; audio, lighting, editing that removes dead air, most niches are wide open. Whatever you're creating, quality still cuts through the noise. Focus on the fundamentals.

The problem in YouTube Strategy isn’t a lack of new information or new gimmicks, or trends that blow up. The actual problem is that most aren’t willing to push their clients to grow up, stop chasing vitality and fame… And treat content like a proper business. Most people don’t need to go viral to make a living. But what they do need is to buckle down and do the damned fundamentals and build their bloody systems… Stop the late night editing and get proper sleep and build their business around their lifestyle, not the other way around. That is the real issue.

Anyone saying it’s the “End of YouTube” is baiting you, or venting. We are at the beginning of the Second Golden Age of YouTube… But some people are so terminally online they can’t think from the perspective of regular consumers who are getting a great experience… who spend more time on the platform than any other medium, or any other site or app every week… Or if THEY aren’t thriving and getting what they want, they project that on to the entire industry. The Creator Economy grows year over year beyond most other industries. Is the single lowest cost high profit margin opportunity in the entire world with almost no barrier to entry.

You’re not obligated to have opinion about everything, speak on everything or use your platform. In fact influencers should be doing less of that nonsense. Most influencers aren’t even educated about everything within their craft of industry they should be. It’s wildly irresponsible for people with platforms to “speak” on things they are wildly uneducated about to an audience even less educated than them about it… Particularly with an abundance of deep fakes, hot takes, and misinformation constantly circulating, assuming experts and leaders aren’t outright lying to the average person. Sure anyone can use their free speech however they want. I just think it’s irresponsible, reckless and unproductive for influencers and celebrities to insert themselves into these issues. In most cases we are talking about people with the primary skill of marketing at best… and being entertaining and attractive at the least… People not qualified to edu after anyone, and overqualified to sell ideas… Oh wait… maybe that’s exactly why people want them to speak 🤔

Content is a business. That is going to rub some people the wrong way. You can make content for fun. But people are allowed to be part of the industry and to make it career a take a small piece of the BILLIONS of Dollars produced the Creator Economy. You want to do it for fun, that’s fine, people play sports for fun, sing or dance for fun… But people are also allowed to make a living doing it and pursue that. It’s not your place to tell them “get a real job”. You can encourage them or ignore them, but if you want to tell them they can’t do it for money, you can shove it… 😑

FOMO is killing your growth as a content creator… (let’s fix that) You’re afraid to niche down because you’re afraid you’ll never get to express or explore every passion, or that some part of you will go unseen forever… You’re over consuming advice because you’re afraid that you’ll miss the one piece of information that matters. You’re buying gear you don’t even have the time to learn, let alone master, because you’re afraid that you’ll be judged if you don’t. You’re afraid to post because you’re afraid to fail in public by not getting what you or someone else thinks is enough views to matter. It’s FEAR that is the instrument of your pain… and I sense much fear in you… Here is how you solve it. Commit to Clarity, use IKIGAI to niche down to an audience. Commit to consistent uploads and have faith the quality will come from quantity (Kaizen) Commit to learning, but not at the expense of doing, remember that through practice one gains experience… START with the mind and heart of a beginner, reject perfection… (Shoshin) Commit to enduring hardship, slow growth, criticism, comparison. Give yourself grace and be graceful, don’t lash out, abuse yourself or others out of frustration. Learn emotion control and channel it into improvement. (Gaman) Your true fear is a fear of COMMITMENT because what if you commit and fail publicly? YOU WILL FAIL IN PUBLIC. There is no shame in that, because that is the price that must be paid or risked to do anything worth doing. You are looking for certainty in all the wrong places. The certainty only comes from the act of COMMITMENT. It is a leap of faith…
