Hiring with Humanity: Building Great Product Teams
Just finished watching/reading “How to Recruit and Retain Great Product Teams” by Bobby Moesta on Mind the Product, and it’s one of those sessions that really stays with you.

What immediately stood out was how Bobby opened with his personal story of becoming a grandfather. That simple, human moment instantly brought a smile to my face and reminded me that behind every role, resume, and hiring decision is a real person with a life beyond work. It set a very grounded and authentic tone for everything that followed.
Some key takeaways that strongly resonated with me:
1. How to write a JD: Job descriptions should focus on real problems to be solved and outcomes to be achieved, not just long lists of skills and tools.
2. Resumes are often made like superheroes: perfectly crafted narratives that don’t always reflect the full reality. This makes conversations and context far more important than just what’s written on paper.
3. Hiring is always a trade-off: there is no “perfect” candidate. Every hire involves balancing strengths, gaps, timing, team needs, and growth potential.
What I really appreciated is how the talk reframes hiring from a checkbox exercise into a thoughtful, empathetic decision-making process. It challenges both interviewers and candidates to be more honest, curious, and realistic.
Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a job or involved in hiring — especially product managers, leaders, and interviewers who want to build strong, sustainable teams.
