This is such a complex issue that frequently impacts all healthcare providers. Good to have some insight into the issue from the vendor side and what providers can do.

Congenital craniofacial anomalies are medical conditions and need to be covered by insurance. This is such a “no-brainer” policy it’s a shame this hasn’t passed yet, much less that it’s even needed to be required via legislation in this day and age.

Day on the Hill is always such a great meeting - not only to be in D.C. but also to get a chance to chat with our wonderful membership. Well done to the team (Jeanne Tuerk, Paula Kantas, MPH, RHIA, Bianca DiVincenzo and Lauren Wright) for another successful event on the books!

OMSs continue to face critical shortages of essential medications like anesthetics, antibiotics and emergency drugs. These disruptions limit access to timely care and strain the entire healthcare system. Two bipartisan bills in Congress aim to address this issue. The RAPID Reserve Act (S 2062/HR 3955) would help manufacturers maintain essential medications in reserve and increase production during future shortages. The MAPS Act (S 1784/HR 4191) would create a national database to track the pharmaceutical supply chain and identify risks before they lead to disruption. Urge lawmakers to act and speak up for patient care at AAOMS.org/TakeAction. #OMSAdvocacy

I’m recognizing #GrayMay along with more than 1.3 million other patients with brain tumors and their caregivers. In 2023, I lost my dad to gliblastoma, a devistating brain cancer with few treatment options. It's amazing that there has been so little progress on this front. #GoGrayinMay to help make real, tangible progress in the fight to conquer and cure brain tumors: braintumor.org/btam.

Rising costs of residency and education are having a domino effect on health care quality and access. Providers can’t afford to go where they’re most needed. Solo practice and academia are nearly impossible for new grads. And services for low reimbursement, charity care and Medicaid patients are getting harder to offer in the face of rising costs on top of significant education debt. We’re not asking for forgiveness - just deferral and a pause on compounding interest while training continues during residency. This is a common sense, responsible and reasonable approach to preserve and strengthen our healthcare system. Tell Congress to take action!
