We're thrilled to announce that this year's Merton Big Read is Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín. The Big Merton Read is a shared reading scheme, run in partnership with Merton Libraries and funded by Arts Council England, which aims to connect the local community through books and stories. Winner of the 2009 Costa Novel Award, Brooklyn quickly became an international bestseller, garnering huge critical acclaim. The film adaptation, starring Saoirse Ronan, was nominated for three Oscars. Long Island- Tóibín’s much-anticipated sequel to Brooklyn- was recently published to rave reviews. We're delighted that Colm will also be joining us for an event later in the year -watch this space for more details. Five hundred copies of the book will be available through libraries and community groups across Merton, so be sure to pick up your copy and get reading. And when you're done, pass it on -share your copy with your friends, family, neighbors- we want the whole community to get involved! #MertonLibraries #Artistsworkinlibraries #LetsCreate
