The number one thing most HR & TA leaders get wrong! They want it to be perfect before they launch it out to the organization. The problem is, it will never be perfect. So, just ship it! Let everyone know this is version 1.0. We're going to keep making it better, but we need to see what will work and what won't. Make it exist first!

Workers at home work 46 minutes less than workers in the office!! People get fired up over images like this. The reality is, we don't really know. At the end of the day, maybe those working at home used their work minutes more efficiently than those in the office. Maybe that didn't. I've never been a huge "minutes" guy. I've always been a huge "did the work get done" guy. The problem we have is that most leaders don't set "work to be done" as the goal and then just make sure it gets done. So, we look at "minutes" a person sat in a chair playing the role of a worker. Believing, well, if they sat there for more minutes, more work got done. But let's not actually measure the work! Also, big efficiency gains in getting rid of "other"! ;)

Big news for Employment Branding Tech!! Four that you should be looking at to expand your "real" employee stories: - Cliquify - reelist - JobPixel - Flockity You can make your own social media posts about your employees. Most fail terribly, and you have no idea why. These folks do! What's your favorite #EmploymentBranding Tech to get your real stories out to the masses?

This is the single biggest lie being sold to candidates today! About 1% of employers are using AI to β€œread” and rank resumes. The truth is much more based in reality. Your resume is not being read by anyone and you’re getting mass rejected by a human who has no capacity to read 90% of the resumes that are sent to them. Tell me I’m wrong!

Okay, I'm going to ask the question! If you don't have the budget for interns, should you ask a college student to work for free so they can at least gain experience and build their resume? 2026 Internship season is going to be a tough one, from the looks of it. I know everyone hates this subject, and of course, interns should always be paid! But the problem is, because we've been so hard on this fact, organizations have given up on hiring interns because they can't afford it. Students need internship experience! Here's what I would do if I were a student who couldn't get a paid internship this Spring/Summer 2026: - Volunteer at organizations you want to work at. Tell them you'll give them 16 hours a week of volunteer time to work on anything. With the stipulation, you can add that "Volunteer" experience to your resume. - Reach out to alumni of your school and ask for a "Personal Mentorship" for the summer - again, 16 hours a week of "shadowing" and "practice". - Do real volunteer work for organizations, but push for that work to be in your area of education/profession. - Reach out to everyone you know and offer yourself up. Maybe you'll get a job/internship/volunteer work in something that isn't in your profession. At least you'll be building your skills, networking, and trying new things. What other advice can we give students who will struggle to get paid internships this summer?

In 2014, Harvard Business Review caused a major commotion! It showed that managerial jobs increased 2X vs. regular jobs. What has happened since? Managerial jobs have increased 3X! Empire building is the real growth engine in America...

"The smartest, dumbest person I know!" is a quote I use often! It's the whole concept of book smarts and street smarts. Some of the smartest people we know seem to lack basic common sense. Then you run into some Joe on the street in dirty work clothes, and he teaches you something so profound you think to yourself, this person has to be a genius! I surround myself with smart people, who maybe others wouldn't assume are smart! Wait, is that putting down my friends!? No! What I'm saying is you might look like a 115, but you feel like a 160! 😘

Hard work is a superpower. Most people don't want to talk about this or admit this. They want to act like working hard is a negative. Like, just slow down, you're going to make the rest of us look bad! Yes. Yes, I am. There are three types of people you will hire: 1. Hard Workers - they always work hard. It's in their DNA. They can't turn it off. 2. Part-time Hard Workers - they can work hard when they need to, and can do really great work. But hard work is natural to them. So, if not pushed. They won't work hard. 3. Anti-Hard Work - They will physically work harder not to work than to just work hard. How do you know if you hired a hard worker? That is the trillion-dollar question for corporations and leaders!

Are you being Ghosted!?! What's worse? A candidate ghosting an interview or first day start, or a company ghosting a candidate after an interview? Trick question! They're both awful, and we should have a site like Glassdoor where we can publicly call out those who do this!! BlackBallGhosting(dot)com or something like that! Being ghosted feels awful both ways, and it's a gigantic waste of resources for both sides. If you're a candidate and you've ghosted, shame on you! If you're a recruiter or hiring manager and you've ghosted, shame on you! I hate you both!

Females make better leaders in a modern world of work. Tell me I'm wrong. This was the basis of my master's thesis. When you look at what makes a great modern leader, it has less to do with traditional male business personality and more to do with trust and consistency. The greater variability in male traits makes it harder to know what you're getting. Women tend to have less outlier downside in hiring. While there might be higher upside on the entrepreneurial side for males, based on risk profile, you're more likely to have higher upside in a corporate environment with women leaders. What do you think?

Did you fall into a Black Hole?!? If you don't hear back from a company when you apply to an hourly job, here's what you do next: 1. Go to the location you applied to and ask to speak to the manager! But don't be a "Karen" (unless your name is Karen, then be a great Karen!). And simply tell them you're interested in working at that location. (90% of the time, they'll be interested) 2. Call the location and ask to speak to the manager in charge of hiring, or see if they'll give the email or cell phone number of that person. It might work! (Less effective than going in directly, but still effective) 3. Go into their competitor and ask to speak to the manager on duty and tell them you applied to the competition. They never got back to you, so you want to work for them! How long should you wait before doing this? 48 hours. If you don't hear back in 48 hours, take your life back into your hands and make something happen! Most companies don't use great recruiting technology like Paradox, A Workday Company. So, they suck at high volume, hourly hiring. Most hiring managers out in the field wear a hundred different hats a day, hiring being only one. So, it's rare they see all the applications. Paradox, a Workday Company, makes it super simple for on-site managers at locations to hire hourly workers super fast. Hiring leaders? Do you think my advice will work?
