Immigrants make the best founders. They have no safety net.
So many of the entrepreneurs I work with are immigrants, and so many of the most successful entrepreneurs – including my co-founder at HubSpot Dharmesh Shah - are immigrants. So are over half of the people I've interviewd on my podcast: Vlad Tenev Nikesh Arora Mati Staniszewski Anton Osika Sasan Goodarzi Kaz Nejatian and I think there's a lot of reasons for that.
"I didn't have an option. My parents didn't know anyone. I had to pay for college, so I had to start working, and just no one would hire me."
According to Kaz: the kind of people who decide they want to be founders because they think it is cool always fail. They're just always fail because deeply painful and lonely. Most successful entrepreneurs you talk to, if they're being honest, they would say something along the lines of, "If I knew everything I know now, I would not have done it."
Yep.
