I talk to a lot of folks about giving employees equity-- a chunk of ownership of the company-- but the reality is that far fewer follow through.
John Gerber in our most delightfully nerdy episode to date, breaks down the ins and outs of employee equity, and I think we did a pretty good job explaining why you might want to do this, and why you might not. And we even invited John Sullivan to pop in to explain some tax stuff :)
My own opinion is that if you're already sharing profit transparently with employees, you're both taking care of one of the reasons to distribute equity, and also clarifying what actually ownership is about...because it can't just be money.
